Cobalt Induced Variations in Growth and Pigment Composition of Arachis hypogaea L

Effect of cobalt (Co) stress on morphological parameters and pigments of Arachis hypogaea L. were studied. Growth parameters such as, root and shoot length, number of nodules, total leaf area and root and shoot dry weights; photosynthetic pigments viz., chlorophyll ‘a’, chlorophyll ‘b’, total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents were analysed. Growth parameters and pigments have beneficial value at 50 mg kg 1 Co level in the soil, when compared with control. Further increase in the Co level (100-200 mg kg ) in the soil 1 has a negative effect on these parameters. From these results it is clear that low concentration of cobalt can be used as enhancer of A. hypogaea.
